Eco-friendly automated label solution for leading UK paper manufacturer

South Wales-based IG Design Group has switched its packaging to an eco-friendly alternative thanks to automated label applicators supplied by UK Labelling Solutions.

The company, which makes wrapping paper, gift bags, cards, craft materials and stationery, recognised that consumer demand was changing in favour of more environmentally-friendly products - including the packaging used for those products.

In response they ran a trial of the Intrex 100+ label applicator, loved for its compact design and value for money, to see if the traditional film wrap on wrapping paper could be replaced with a simple peelable label.

Engineering & Facilities Manager Angelo Andriola, of IG Design, explained:

“As a company we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and so we are always looking for ways to reduce our use of plastics among other materials.

“Introducing the new label applicators means that we can now offer 100% plastic-free wrapping paper to satisfy the requirements of our customers.”

Intrex is a Polish manufacturer specialising in label application and marking. As a UK partner, we are able to bring their products to UK industry, ensuring the right specification and set-up and providing the assurance of local after-sales support.

Managing Director Jason Thelwell says:

“This was a big project with 54 machines required to enable sufficient production to meet demand.

“The change in packaging method is a significant investment but will deliver long-term returns on cost and more importantly will meet the demands of consumers who are becoming more eco-aware every day.

“Large stockists such as supermarkets are responding to changing consumer habits by committing to removing as much plastic as possible from their supply chains, and this can only be a good thing for the planet.

“Investment in new automation also makes good financial sense for the manufacturers and we are only too happy to support that.”

Angelo says of working with UKLS:

“This project has developed quickly over the past two years and Jason and his team have been supporting us with their expertise throughout the process. As we continue to introduce more plastic-free products into our range we will continue to work in collaboration with Jason to ensure the conversion away from plastic products is a seamless one.”
