Automatic and semi-automatic labelling machines

UK Labelling Solutions is CDA’s appointed sole distributor for the UK marketplace, utilising over 30 years industry experience in partnership with CDA’s team to ensure we identify the optimum industrial labelling machine for your specific requirements.

CDA manufactures automatic and semi-automatic labelling machines to label containers across an extensive range for manufacturing sectors including food, beer, wines & spirits, cosmetics and e-liquids.

CDA's range of industrial labellers can be used for labelling in-line, while rotating, to the sides, top and bottom of products in accordance with your required production rates. Their automatic and semi-automatic labelling machines are suitable for labelling products of all shapes and sizes: cylindrical, tapered, square, rectangular or flat.

Learn more about CDA Labelling Techniques

Labelling plays an essential role in packaging and production industries, where every detail contributes to the quality of the final product. In this guide (adapted from an original by CDA), we explore the different labelling techniques used by CDA and highlight three commonly used approaches:

  1. Three-point

  2. Banding

  3. On-the-fly

1 Three-point Labelling

The 3-point technique is the most accurate labelling method. It is suitable for cylindrical and conical products, such as bottles and flasks. This method involves rotating a product on itself (using a smoothing roller and a pressure plate cylinder). As it rotates, one or more labels are dispensed and applied.

Precision: The three support points ensure that the label is positioned with great precision, avoiding any shifting or creasing.

Versatility: Up to four labels can be applied per container. It also offers the best results on tapered products.

2 Banding

Banding involves rotating products using motorised bands (which ‘sandwich’ the container). As a result, the label wraps around the container, smoothing out the edges. This is an ideal method for cylindrical products that require a single label, often wrapping around the product.

Security: Banding can hermetically seal the product, offering protection against contamination or deterioration.

Time saving: Banding allows high production rates (the product never stops) which is essential in large-scale manufacturing environments.

3 On-the-fly

On-the-fly labelling is a technique for applying labels to products that are in continuous motion (via a conveyor or star-wheel). It is an extremely effective approach for high-speed production environments.

High speed: Labels are applied to products without stopping, enabling high speeds to be achieved.

Versatility: this technique can be applied to cylindrical products as well as square, rectangular, oval and other shapes.

Other techniques employed by CDA labelling machines include top-to-bottom labelling and pressure-sensitive labelling.
